Will's Words

2nd November, 2009. 11:33 am. Huh? What? November?!

November 2, time for my annual NaNoWriMo post.

Other years, I've just winged it and hoped for the best -- and then crashed and burned. But this year, I have a plan. (Or a plot, at any rate). We'll see how it goes.

Got 1252 words yesterday, which is a pretty good first day (compared to the last two years).

Went to Belmikey's birthday party tonight. Got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time, too long.

We both had a really good time.

4th November, 2008. 11:38 am. Update and meme

Meme first:

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions.

As far as updates go, my NaNo novel has sputtered out -- I wasn't really committed to it. I have another idea I'm going to try, though, so I should still make 50 K anyway. (I've never been ahead of schedule, so this isn't surprising to me...)

Happy birthday to chimeramonster!

Happy All Saints' Day to those who celebrate such things.

I gotta say, I'm really not sure where this novel is going. But at least it is going; I'm at 1789 words already (totally ahead of my daily quota).

So far, it appears to be a romantic comedy crossed with a police procedural. If such an abomination can exist. Hmm, I'll have to work the names Norah Ephron and Ed McBain into the narrative somehow...

Anyway, cats and kitties, later days.

Current mood: accomplished.

1st November, 2008. 2:44 am. It's that time of the year again

National Novel Writing Month has just started and I'm taking a break. I'm at 953 words so far, which is not a bad start since the day is just 2 hours and 45 minutes old. (I didn't start right at Midnight.)

Unlike previous years, where I'd start writing and realize I was doing something I'd thought of many years ago, this year I started totally cold. I had no ideas, no preconceptions, and no plan whatsoever.

As of now, I have three named characters, two men and one woman. Two of them have just broken up and the third is interested in one of them. That's really all I can say; anything more would dilute the creative frenzy.

What's interesting is that this seems so far to be set entirely in the present day. There is no hint of science fiction, fantasy, or even mystery. It's just people, being people.

I'm not saying it's going to be the Great American Novel (in fact, I can pretty well guarantee it won't be), but it's something I'm going to have fun with.

I might post casting information later; one of the characters could easily be played by Thomas Gibson (he's on some show that I don't watch, but I remember him from Dharma and Greg). The other two I can't see just yet, but they'll come to me.

Anyway, that's it for now.

Current mood: accomplished.

19th September, 2008. 10:28 am. Real Pirates...

...don't say "aargh!" unless they've stabbed themselves attempting to sheath their cutlasses.

They say "arrr!".

Since it's, y'know, International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I thought some people should be informed of that.

And then there's the meme:

My pirate name is:

Mad Roger Flint

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

Also, a quote for the day:

“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don’t let anybody tell you different.”

-- Kurt Vonnegut.

Current mood: chipper.
